Vipps MobilePay ePayments

Vipps MobilePay ePayments is a versatile solution that allows merchants to accept online payments through MobilePay in Denmark and Vipps in Norway, offering a seamless and secure customer experience.

While this new product is currently branded as Vipps MobilePay for merchants, end users will continue to use their regular MobilePay or Vipps apps and will experience no difference compared to the old MobilePay Online and Vipps payment methods. Merchants can enable Vipps MobilePay in the Billwerk+ Administration under Configuration and Payment Methods by adding a Vipps MobilePay agreement.

Account-to-Account Transactions

Unlike the traditional MobilePay Online and Vipps payment methods, which are card-based, Vipps MobilePay uses the ePayment APIs to facilitate account-to-account transactions, eliminating the need for multiple intermediaries such as acquirers, processors, and schemes typically involved in card-based payments.

This streamlines the payment process, making it more efficient and cost-effective for merchants. Additionally, Vipps MobilePay also offers a recurring payment option, Vipps MobilePay Recurring, specifically designed for managing recurring online payments.

Managing Multiple Vipps MobilePay Agreements

If you have multiple Vipps MobilePay agreements on your Billwerk+ account, you can utilize the Vipps MobilePay Agreement Filter when using Billwerk+ Checkout.

By using the vipps_epayment_filter parameter, you can specify which Vipps MobilePay agreement to use for each transaction by adding the agreement ID as the value for this parameter. For example: "vipps_epayment_filter": "7017c40ece694a856fac8ecb03c6bcb".

How Vipps MobilePay Works

  1. Customer selects their payment method
    1. In Billwerk+ Checkout opened by merchant's website or app, the customer will see either MobilePay Online if the currency is DKK, or Vipps if the currency is NOK. The customer selects their preferred payment method accordingly. If the merchant has configured a Billwerk+ Checkout session where Vipps MobilePay is the only payment method, the customer will be redirected directly to MobilePay or Vipps based on the currency, bypassing the payment method selection in Billwerk+ Checkout.
  2. Customer enters their phone number and logs in
    1. If the payment was initiated from a mobile device, the Vipps or MobilePay app will automatically open.
    2. If the payment was initiated on a desktop device, a landing page will open where the customer confirms their phone number and logs in to Vipps MobilePay.
  3. Customer confirms the payment in the app
    1. A push notification appears on the customer's phone. They log in to Vipps MobilePay and confirm the payment.
  4. The merchant's shop confirms the order
    1. The store page or app reopens to confirm that the order was successful.
  5. The merchant completes the order
    1. The merchant completes the order.
  6. Capture the payment
    1. The merchant settles the payment through Billwerk+, unless instant settle was used on the Billwerk+ Checkout session. The funds are then transferred to the merchant's account, which may take 2-3 days depending on the bank.
